What are the differences between 6-pin and 4-pin IEEE-1394 connectors

Publisher: Administrator    Date:2023-01-06

IEEE1394 is a serial digital interface, which has two types: 6-pin and 4-pin. The 6-pin connector is 6-pin, and the small 4-pin connector is 4-pin. The difference between the two interfaces is whether power can be supplied to the connected equipment through wiring. This is because the power supply line can ensure the continuity of the transmission signal regardless of the state of the equipment.

Four of the six pin interfaces are signal lines for data transmission, and the other two are power lines for connecting equipment. Compared with the 6-pin interface, the 4-pin interface does not provide a power pin, so it cannot supply power. Limited by factors such as the space for configuring interfaces, the 6-pin interface is mainly used for ordinary desktop computers. In laptops and all-in-one computers, 4 pins are mostly used. In digital video cameras and other products and household appliances, it is common to use 4-pin.

The six pin IEEE-1394 connector developed and produced by Cisco has a product data transmission rate of up to 400 Mbps, and supports power supply for external equipment, which can realize stable long-distance two-way data transmission. Meet the requirements of high-quality long-distance transmission of multimedia equipment.
